Barbados Labour Party Wins Third Straight Victory

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley on her historic third consecutive electoral victory. The Barbados Labour Party won all 30 seats in the House of Assembly, securing another clean sweep in the general election. The result strengthened Mottley’s mandate and brought into light the party’s continued dominance in Barbadian politics.

Historic Electoral Mandate

The Barbados Labour Party achieved a 30–0 victory for the third successive general election. This means the party won every seat in the House of Assembly. Such a result is rare in parliamentary democracies and reflects strong voter support for the ruling leadership.

India-Barbados Relations

India reiterated its commitment to deepening ties with Barbados. The two countries share friendly bilateral relations based on Commonwealth membership, the English language and a common interest in cricket. Their cooperation also extends to multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth and the Non-Aligned Movement.

Areas of Cooperation

India and Barbados have been engaging in several key sectors. These include:

  • Health and pharmaceuticals.
  • Climate action.
  • Culture and people-to-people exchanges.
  • Multilateral cooperation on global issues.

Diplomatic Significance

The two leaders last met on the sidelines of the India-CARICOM Summit in 2024. Barbados has also supported India’s bid for permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council. The latest electoral outcome is expected to provide continuity in Barbados’ domestic policy and external engagement.
