Bharat Taxi Cooperative Ride-Hailing Platform

Bharat Taxi Cooperative Ride-Hailing Platform

Bharat Taxi is India’s first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform and step in the expansion of the cooperative sector under the vision of ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’. It has been registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, and is designed to place drivers, called Sarathis, at the centre of ownership, governance, and value creation. The platform aims to offer a dignified and sustainable alternative to aggregator-based mobility models.

Launch and Institutional Framework

Bharat Taxi was established on 6 June 2025 by eight national-level cooperative institutions and was officially launched on 5 February 2026. It is currently functional in Delhi NCR, including Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad, and in Gujarat cities such as Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Somnath and Dwarka. The service is planned for phased expansion across the country over the next two years.

Cooperative Model and Employment Impact

The platform follows a zero-commission model. Profits are intended to be distributed directly to drivers, strengthening their income security and ownership stake. The initiative seeks to generate livelihood and self-employment opportunities for driver-owners, unemployed youth and other participants in the mobility ecosystem. It is also expected to support local economies through direct and indirect employment.

Partnerships and Service Features

Bharat Taxi has signed MoUs with several institutions, including Paytm, Airports Authority of India, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Delhi Traffic Police, National e-Governance Division, Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation, IFFCO Tokio General Insurance, GMR Group and State Bank of India. These partnerships are meant to support digital payments, transport connectivity, traffic coordination, insurance, banking and infrastructure integration. The platform also offers transparent fares, real-time vehicle tracking, multilingual support, secure onboarding and 24/7 customer support.

Women-Centred Initiatives

Bharat Taxi has introduced women-focused initiatives such as ‘Bike Didi’ and ‘Sarthi Didi’ to increase women’s participation in cooperative mobility. The platform promotes women’s inclusion through outreach, training, financial assistance, safety measures and preferential onboarding. It also works with women self-help groups and cooperative institutions to widen participation in the sector.
