Project Veer Gatha 5.0 has recorded its highest-ever participation since its launch in 2021, with around 1.92 crore students from nearly 1.90 lakh schools taking part. The initiative, linked to Republic Day celebrations, honours gallantry awardees and promotes awareness of India’s military traditions, heroic legacies and patriotic values among school students.
Record Participation Across India and Abroad
The fifth edition saw wide engagement from schools across the country. For the first time, CBSE-affiliated schools abroad also joined the initiative. A total of 28,005 students from 91 schools in 18 countries submitted entries, expanding the project’s international reach.
Super-Winners Selected for Republic Day Parade
A total of 100 national-level Super-Winners have been selected. These include:
- 25 students from Preparatory stage, Grades 3 to 5.
- 25 students from Middle stage, Grades 6 to 8.
- 50 students from Secondary stage, Grades 9 to 12.
Each winner will receive a cash prize of ₹10,000 and attend the Republic Day Parade 2026 at Kartavya Path as special guests.
New Categories and Themes Introduced
Launched on 8 September 2025, the fifth edition introduced new engagement formats such as short videos for videography, anchoring, reporting and storytelling. Students created content on Samarik Parampara, covering India’s military traditions, campaigns and heroic legacies. Themes included Prithviraj Chauhan, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, King Kharavela of Kalinga, the warriors of 1857 and tribal uprisings.
Evaluation and Growing Scale of the Initiative
The project involved school-level activities, interactions with gallantry awardees and submissions through the MyGov portal. After district and state-level evaluation, 4,020 entries reached the national stage. State and district winners will also be recognised by their respective authorities. Participation has grown steadily from 8 lakh students in the first edition to 1.36 crore in Veer Gatha 3.0 and 1.76 crore in Veer Gatha 4.0.
