PAIMANA Tracks 1,948 Infrastructure Projects

India’s central infrastructure monitoring system is tracking 1,948 projects worth ₹41.98 lakh crore, with nearly 47 per cent of the revised cost already spent. The latest flash report for February 2026 shows cumulative expenditure of ₹19.71 lakh crore, indicating continued progress across major ministries and sectors. The portfolio includes both near-completion projects and large new additions, reflecting the scale of ongoing public investment.

Project Progress Overview

  • As many as 740 projects, or about 38 per cent, have reported over 80 per cent physical progress.
  • Another 250 projects, nearly 13 per cent, have crossed 80 per cent financial completion.
  • The data shows that financial spending is usually higher in the early stages, while physical execution rises closer to completion.

Sectoral Distribution

Transport and logistics dominate the infrastructure pipeline with 1,421 projects worth ₹22.96 lakh crore, forming 55 per cent of total project cost. Energy is the second-largest segment with projects worth ₹10.95 lakh crore, covering oil and gas, power generation, transmission and storage. Communication, water and sanitation, and social infrastructure together account for a smaller but steady share of the overall portfolio.

Ministry-Wise Allocation

  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways leads with 1,108 projects worth ₹10.51 lakh crore.
  • The Ministry of Railways has 245 projects with a cost share of ₹8.39 lakh crore.
  • Other major ministries include power, petroleum and natural gas, coal, housing and urban affairs, and water resources.
  • The remaining projects are spread across civil aviation, telecom, health, ports, steel and education.

Monitoring, Commissioning And Additions

Of the total projects, 793 are mega projects valued at ₹1,000 crore and above, accounting for ₹30.93 lakh crore. In February, nine projects were commissioned, including railway and petroleum assets. During the same month, 268 new projects were added to the monitoring system, mostly from the road transport and highways ministry. The PAIMANA portal is used to track projects worth ₹150 crore and above and improve inter-ministerial oversight.
