Mehrauli Archaeological Park in south Delhi is a protected heritage landscape associated with the Delhi Sultanate, Mughal, and colonial periods. The park contains more than 60 historical monuments, including tombs, mosques, stepwells, and pavilions.
Cleanliness Drive and Community Participation
On 26 April 2026, Inkpot India and NGO Parvaah organised a cleanliness drive at Mehrauli Archaeological Park with support from Delhi Tourism and the Archaeological Survey of India. More than 100 volunteers, including students and working professionals, took part in the drive. The initiative included a curated heritage walk and used the theme #NoLitterLegacy.
Heritage Week at Mehrauli
The Delhi Development Authority organised a week-long Heritage Week at Mehrauli Archaeological Park from 13 April to 18 April 2026. The programme included heritage walks, student competitions in dialogue, story writing, and sketching on 15 April and 16 April, along with a public heritage walk on 17 April.
Associated Activities and Conservation Work
The Delhi Development Authority partnered with MyGov for an online photography contest and with the Archaeological Survey of India for a conservation exhibition during Heritage Week. On 12 April 2026, a Heritage Walk and Cleanliness Drive was scheduled around Zafar Mahal and Hijron Ka Khanqah, with a 20-25 minute clean-up near Zafar Mahal.
Restoration Context
The Mehrauli Archaeological Park underwent restoration and overhaul during 2023 to 2025 through collaboration between the Delhi Development Authority and the Archaeological Survey of India. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena visited the park on 15 December 2024 to review restoration work and the role of residents in upkeep.
