CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) celebrated its 5th Foundation Day with a focus on science communication, policy research, and digital outreach. The event brought into light the institute’s growing role in linking science with society, promoting traditional knowledge, and using artificial intelligence for multilingual communication.
Science Communication and Policy Research
CSIR-NIScPR has built a strong reputation in science communication and science policy studies. The institute works on translating scientific ideas into public understanding and policy relevance. Its research focus includes evidence-based policy support, public engagement, and communication strategies for societal benefit.
AI and Regional Language Outreach
A major theme of the programme was the use of AI in regional language communication. The institute aims to expand science communication across Indian languages and improve accessibility. This approach is important for wider public reach, especially in a multilingual country like India. The use of AI is expected to support faster content adaptation and broader dissemination of scientific information.
SVASTIK Web Portal Launched
The SVASTIK web portal was launched during the event. SVASTIK stands for Scientifically Validated Societal Traditional Knowledge. It is a national initiative of CSIR-NIScPR to communicate India’s validated traditional knowledge to society. The portal provides access to SVASTIK content in English, 19 Indian languages, and 5 foreign languages. It is designed to improve outreach, accessibility, and stakeholder engagement.
Traditional Knowledge and Global Vision
The programme also underlined the importance of the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL), which supports validation and digitisation of traditional knowledge. The institute’s leadership stressed the need to engage global institutions and strengthen India’s science policy presence internationally. The event reflected NIScPR’s broader vision of combining science, technology, policy, and traditional knowledge for national development.
