Tamil Nadu Launches Sovereign AI Park

Tamil Nadu Launches Sovereign AI Park

Tamil Nadu has signed an agreement with Sarvam AI to set up India’s first full-stack Sovereign Artificial Intelligence Park. The project, with an initial investment of ₹10,000 crore, aims to build trusted AI infrastructure under domestic control. It is expected to generate more than 1,000 high-skilled jobs and strengthen India’s capacity in secure, public-interest-driven artificial intelligence.

Sovereign AI Infrastructure

The proposed park will function as a dedicated AI district. It will combine high-performance computing, secure data systems, advanced model research laboratories and innovation clusters. A specialised institute for AI in governance will also be created. The ecosystem is designed to keep data, models and computing resources within a trusted state boundary.

Focus on Governance and Security

The project seeks to support ethical AI deployment, data security and regulatory oversight. It will also help expand the use of AI in public administration and citizen services. The model reflects a shift from mere adoption of AI to active shaping of its development for public use.

Tamil-First AI Development

A major feature of the park will be the development of Tamil-first foundational AI models. These models are expected to integrate classical vocabulary with modern digital applications. The initiative aims to embed linguistic and cultural context into future AI systems while supporting education, agriculture, healthcare and citizen engagement.

Strategic Ecosystem for Innovation

Sarvam AI will anchor the technology stack of the park. The project is expected to attract investment, deepen research capacity and support startups and technology firms. It also aligns with wider national efforts such as the IndiaAI Mission and India’s push for sovereign large language models.
