The University of Delhi has launched the Drug Free Campus Campaign to strengthen efforts against substance abuse among students. The initiative was inaugurated by the Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, and linked to the wider Nasha Mukt Parisar Abhiyaan. A dedicated e-pledge platform and mobile application were also introduced to encourage participation from students across the country. The campaign has been positioned as part of the broader vision of a healthy, self-reliant and developed India.
Campaign Launch and Purpose
The campaign aims to create awareness about the harms of drug abuse in higher educational institutions. It seeks to build a campus culture that promotes discipline, responsibility and healthy choices. The Vice-President urged universities to take the pledge and make the movement collective and sustained.
Institutional Participation
The launch event was attended by the Union Minister for Education, the Education Minister of Delhi, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delhi, faculty members, students and senior officials. The presence of key education leaders brought into light the importance of institutional action in addressing substance abuse among youth.
Digital Pledge Platform
The university introduced an e-pledge portal and a mobile application to widen outreach. These tools are designed to make participation easier and to turn the campaign into a mass movement. Students from Central Higher Educational Institutions have been encouraged to join the initiative and commit to a drug-free campus.
Policy and Youth Relevance
The campaign reflects the growing focus on preventive education and youth welfare in Indiaβs higher education system. It links public health, social responsibility and nation-building. The initiative also aligns with the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047, which depends on a healthy and empowered youth population.
