The Digital India Programme completed 11 years on 1 July 2026, transforming digital governance, connectivity and service delivery across India.

Structure and Pillars

  • Core pillars: Nine pillars including Broadband Highways (BharatNet), Universal Mobile Connectivity, e‑Governance (DigiLocker, National Single Sign‑On) and e‑Kranti (e‑Hospital, e‑Sanjeevani, e‑Courts).

Connectivity and Infrastructure

  • Broadband subscribers: 106.58 crore (March 2026).

  • Mobile data cost: declined from ~₹269/GB to ~₹8–10/GB over the last decade.

Digital Platforms and Usage

  • DigiLocker: 70.69 crore users.
  • eSanjeevani: 48 crore telemedicine consultations.
  • UMANG: 2,572 government services.
  • GeM: ₹18.4 lakh crore procurement value.
  • DIKSHA: 2 crore users for digital education.

Payments and Financial Inclusion

  • JAM Trinity: 57.78 crore bank accounts; 144 crore Aadhaar enrolments; 85.5% smartphone penetration (early 2026).
  • UPI: 10 years in April 2026; 24,162 crore transactions in FY2025‑26; ~49% share of global real‑time digital payments; operational in nine countries.

Next Phase: AI and Semiconductors

  • IndiaAI Mission: approved with outlay >₹10,372 crore; shared compute facility with >45,000 GPUs.
  • Semiconductor investments: ₹1.64 lakh crore approved for 12 projects (1 fabrication, 2 compound, 9 packaging) as of 27 June 2026.

  • Online Gaming: Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act in force (May 2026); Online Gaming Authority constituted (April 2026).
