India International Water Week 2026 Launched

India International Water Week 2026 Launched

India International Water Week (IIWW-2026) will be held from 22 to 26 September 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event will focus on the theme Climate Resilient Water Management and is expected to bring together policymakers, experts, innovators, practitioners, youth, and international stakeholders to discuss water security and sustainable management.

Launch of IIWW-2026

The Ministry of Jal Shakti launched the ninth edition of India International Water Week at Shram Shakti Bhavan, New Delhi. The official brochure was released and the event website portal was made live. Senior officials from the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, National Water Development Agency, Central Water Commission, and National Water Mission were present.

Focus on Climate-Resilient Water Management

The conference will show climate-resilient approaches to water governance and infrastructure. Key themes include:

  • Inclusive and equitable water governance.
  • Optimal use of water resources through collaboration.
  • Technology and community participation for water security.
  • Water-related climate risks and adaptation.
  • Innovative financing for water infrastructure modernisation.
  • Sustainable water resources management.
  • Water for people and the planet.

Water Conservation and Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari

The event launch also underlined the importance of water conservation as part of the vision of Viksit Bharat. The Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari initiative, launched in September 2024, aims to turn water conservation into a mass movement. More than 60 lakh artificial recharge and water conservation structures have already been created under the initiative, with a target of one crore structures by May 2026.

Conference Format and Participation

IIWW-2026 will feature bilateral meetings and multiple forums, including the Ministerial Plenary, Global Water Leaders’ Plenary, Water Leaders’ Forum, Practitioners’ Forum, Country Forum, Thematic Forum, Youth Forum, and Start-up Forum. Special sessions will also involve ministries, departments, international organisations, NGOs, school children, and young professionals, making the conference broad-based and policy-oriented.
