India Named Country of Year at BIOFACH 2026

India has been designated the Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for organic products. The event will be held from 10 to 13 February 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany. India’s participation, organised by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), will feature a large pavilion and a broad display of organic products. The recognition comes at a time when India’s organic export profile is expanding and global demand for sustainable food products is rising.

India’s Expanded Presence

India’s participation at BIOFACH 2026 marks a major scale-up from earlier editions. The India Country Pavilion will cover 1,074 square metres and host 67 co-exhibitors. These will include exporters, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, organic laboratories, state government bodies, and commodity boards.

Products and States Represented

The pavilion will showcase organic rice, oilseeds, herbs, spices, pulses, cashew, ginger, turmeric, large cardamom, cinnamon, mango puree, and essential oils. Exhibitors from more than 20 States and Union Territories are taking part, including Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand.

Promotion of Heritage and GI Varieties

Visitors will be offered curated food tastings featuring Indian organic products. Live sampling of biryani made with organic basmati rice and spices will also be organised. Five GI-tagged rice varieties will be brought into light – Indrayani, Navara, Gobindbhog, Red rice, and Chak Hao, also known as Black rice. The display aims to promote India’s heritage crops and value-added organic food products.

Significance for Organic Trade

BIOFACH is the largest international exhibition dedicated exclusively to organic food and agriculture. India has participated in the fair for more than a decade, but the 2026 edition reflects a stronger global presence. The designation as Country of the Year underlines India’s growing role in organic agriculture, export competitiveness, and sustainable food supply chains.
