National Skill Olympiad on Seafood Value Addition

The second National Skill Olympiad on Seafood Value Addition concluded on 2 July 2026 at Seafood Expo Bharat 2026 in Kochi. It was organised by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

Event and organiser

  • Date & venue: 2 July 2026; Seafood Expo Bharat 2026, Kochi, Kerala.
  • Organiser: MPEDA; statutory body under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, established in 1972 to promote marine product exports.
  • Selection path: Ten finalists chosen via regional rounds in Mumbai (West Coast) and Visakhapatnam/Vijayawada (East Coast) on 30 June 2026.

Results & prizes

  • Winner: P. Surya Bhaskar (Devi Fisheries Ltd., Kakinada); cash prize ₹1,00,000.
  • Prize structure: Second ₹75,000; third ₹50,000; fourth ₹25,000.

Training & capacity building

  • Programme reach: MPEDA conducted 50 Seafood Value Addition training programmes across India’s east and west coasts, training over 2,500 processing workers and professionals.

Products & technical focus

  • Finale products: Nobashi shrimp; Breaded butterfly shrimp; Cooked Peeled Deveined Tail-On (PDTO) shrimp; Marinated shrimp skewers; Breaded squid rings; Fish fillets.
  • Skills assessed: Breading, marination, portioning, PDTO processing, battering, presentation and shelf-life handling.
