Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has secured the First Prize at the Swachhata Pakhwada Awards 2025, recognising its performance in cleanliness, sustainability, and community participation. The award marks the port’s work under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways’ cleanliness campaigns and its efforts to promote a cleaner and more sustainable workplace.
Award Recognition
PPA received the honour at a ceremony in New Delhi. The award was presented by the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, with the Minister of State and the Ministry Secretary also present. The Chairman of Paradip Port Authority received the award on behalf of the organisation.
Key Initiatives Undertaken
PPA implemented the three main pillars of Swachhata Pakhwada 2025:
- Jan Bhagidari: Large-scale public participation was mobilised through cleanliness drives in schools, heritage sites, temples, beaches, ponds, and port premises.
- Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam: Plantation drives were carried out to expand green cover and improve environmental quality.
- Safai Mitra Suraksha: Special focus was given to the welfare, safety, and dignity of sanitation workers through medical check-ups and recognition programmes.
Community and Environmental Outreach
The port organised cyclothons, rallies, Swachhata Runs, human chains, and citizen-led drives to spread awareness on cleanliness. It also ran campaigns against single-use plastics through street theatre, rallies, and cotton bag distribution. Activities such as Scrap to Structure, Waste to Wealth exhibitions, rangoli contests, blood donation camps, and clean food street initiatives strengthened public engagement.
Significance For Clean India Mission
A major show was the plantation of 40,000 saplings at Paradip Sea Beach under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 campaign. The award reflects PPA’s focus on environmental stewardship, inclusive development, and the ideals of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. It also sets a benchmark for sustainable port operations and community-driven cleanliness efforts.
