PMFME Scheme: Key Features and Progress

The Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme is a Central Sector scheme launched in June 2020 under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. By 11 July 2026 the scheme had sanctioned loans to over two lakh micro food processing enterprises.

Scheme Overview

  • Purpose: Formalise micro food processors and provide credit-linked support and capacity building.
  • Implementing agency: Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI).
  • Core components: Seed capital, credit-linked grants, training, common infrastructure and incubation centres.

  • Loans sanctioned: Over 2 lakh micro enterprises.
  • Project investment leveraged: Over Rs 20,300 crore.

  • Women participation: 44% of beneficiaries; 77% of trained participants were women.
  • Formal registrations: More than 75,000 units obtained registrations such as Udyam, FSSAI or GST.

Capacity Building & Infrastructure

  • Seed capital coverage: Over 4.18 lakh Self-Help Group members supported.
  • Training delivered: More than 1.76 lakh beneficiaries trained.
  • Incubation network: 80 Common Incubation Centres approved across 27 States/UTs; 32 operational.
  • Timeline: Scheme extended to September 2026; PMFME 2.0 under consideration.
