Shri Praveen Vashista was appointed by the President of India through a warrant dated 12 December 2025. He subscribed to the oath of office on 16 January 2026. The oath was administered by the Central Vigilance Commissioner, who was authorised under the Act.
Professional Background
Shri Vashista is a 1991-batch Indian Police Service officer of the Bihar cadre. He has over three decades of experience in law enforcement, crisis response and security management. His career includes service as Inspector General of the Economic Offences Wing and Criminal Investigation Department of Bihar. He also served as Superintendent of Police in Ranchi, Dumka and Garhwa, where he handled law and order responsibilities.
Service in Central Agencies
He has also served in the Central Bureau of Investigation as Superintendent of Police and Deputy Inspector General. On central deputation, he held important positions in the Ministry of Home Affairs, including Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary, Officer on Special Duty and Special Secretary for Internal Security. These roles gave him experience in internal security and administrative oversight.
Central Vigilance Commission
The Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003 provides for one Central Vigilance Commissioner and two Vigilance Commissioners. The tenure of a Vigilance Commissioner is four years or until the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. The CVC functions as an independent body for vigilance administration, corruption prevention and supervision of vigilance matters in central government organisations.
