Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana

Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana

The Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (DDKY) is a district-focused agricultural development scheme aimed at improving productivity and farm resilience in selected districts. The 100 identified districts were chosen on the basis of three indicators – low crop productivity, low cropping intensity, and low agricultural credit disbursement. The scheme seeks to address structural gaps in agriculture through convergence of central, state and private sector efforts.

Scheme Objectives

DDKY focuses on raising agricultural output and strengthening the farm economy. Its key objectives include:

  • Enhancing agricultural productivity.
  • Promoting crop diversification and sustainable farming.
  • Expanding post-harvest storage at panchayat and block levels.
  • Improving irrigation access.
  • Facilitating both long-term and short-term agricultural credit.

District Action Plans

Each DDKY district prepares a District Action Plan (DAP) through the District Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana Samiti. These plans are designed to identify local bottlenecks and address them through coordinated interventions. The DAPs are prepared in convergence with 36 Central Schemes across 11 Departments, along with state schemes and private sector participation. Relevant schemes such as the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana are also aligned with the district plans.

Climate-Smart Interventions

The scheme allows districts to include climate-resilient agricultural technologies in their plans. It also supports the creation of climate-smart assets such as:

  • Protected cultivation structures.
  • Micro-irrigation systems.
  • Post-harvest infrastructure.

These measures are intended to improve efficiency, reduce losses, and strengthen adaptation to climate stress.

Monitoring and Governance

The district samitis are headed by the district collector and conduct consultations and inter-departmental coordination while preparing the DAPs. For oversight, State Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana Samitis, a National Executive Committee and a National Monitoring Committee have been established. Central Nodal Officers have also been assigned to each district for field visits, review and performance monitoring.
