APEDA to Set Up Basmati and Organic Training Centre in Pilibhit

The Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) will establish a basmati and organic training centre and demonstration farm in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh. The project uses 7 acres of land at the government agriculture farm in Tanda Bijesi village and involves an estimated investment of about Rs 15 crore.

Project Location and Institutional Framework

The centre will function as the second Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF) facility in Uttar Pradesh after Meerut. The Public Works Department will complete the construction within one year.

Training and Export-Related Facilities

The centre will train farmers in premium basmati cultivation, organic farming practices, seed production, and export readiness. It will also serve farmers from nearby districts and from states such as Uttarakhand and Delhi.

Infrastructure and Technical Components

The facility will include a seed unit, an auditorium, a museum with 45 notified basmati rice varieties, and an NABL-accredited laboratory. The laboratory will test DNA, pesticide residues, and heavy metals in rice samples.

Digital Survey and Crop Mapping

The project will use artificial intelligence for satellite-based surveys of basmati crops. The surveys will map cultivation areas, identify varieties, and generate production estimates for export planning.

BEDF Training Target

The Basmati Export Development Foundation aims to train over 50,000 farmers by the end of 2025–26 across seven basmati-producing states. The Pilibhit centre will add to the training network for basmati and organic agriculture.
