Rajasthan’s New Water Management Initiatives

Rajasthan launched the Rajasthan State Water Plan 2047 on 24 July 2026, providing a long-term framework for river-linking projects, groundwater conservation and public participation.

Key Projects and Agreements

  • Ramjal Setu Link Project: Intended to supply drinking water to 17 districts and irrigate about 4.84 lakh hectares.
  • Yamuna Water Agreement (23 June 2026): Allocates 1,917 cusecs of Yamuna water to the Shekhawati region via a 295 km pipeline; mapped to Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu; serves ~7.5 million people.
  • Devas III & IV: Drinking-water projects for Udaipur with an estimated cost of ₹1,691 crore.

Programmes and Funding

  • AMRUT 2.0: ₹5,100 crore approved for drinking-water infrastructure across 178 urban local bodies; work orders issued for 109 ULBs by 24 July 2026.
  • Jal Jeevan Mission: Over 1.5 million rural households in Rajasthan receiving tap connections; national mission launched in 2019.
  • Atal Bhujal Yojana: Groundwater management works worth ₹485 crore completed by 24 July 2026.

Conservation, Technology and Monitoring

  • Jal Sanrakshan Abhiyan: Launched 2 January 2026 with a budget of ₹500 crore for rainwater harvesting, check dams and rejuvenation of traditional water bodies and stepwells.
  • Indira Gandhi Canal: Principal canal system supplying irrigation and drinking water to western Rajasthan.
  • Kisan Saathi App: Provides farmers real‑time information on irrigation water availability.
  • Irrigation Monitoring: A state irrigation task force constituted for monitoring major irrigation projects.
