Tripura has announced a major development plan for the Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary in Sepahijala district. The state has received more than Rs 57 crore for modernisation and further development of the sanctuary and zoo complex. The move comes after complaints from foreign tourists about plastic waste and unhygienic conditions inside the premises. The administration has said that the funds will be used to improve facilities and raise the site to international standards.
Development Fund and Plan
The Rs 57 crore allocation has been received under the DoNER Ministry. An approved development plan from the Central Zoo Authority is already in place. The funding is expected to support infrastructure improvement, better visitor management, and overall upgradation of the sanctuary.
Cleanliness and Waste Management
Following the complaints, officials inspected the site and reviewed the condition of the zoo area. Steps are being taken to collect and safely dispose of plastic waste. The administration has stressed the need for a clean and plastic-free environment. Visitors have also been urged to act responsibly during their visit.
Zoo Modernisation and Species Addition
The proposed work will cover all major aspects of the zoo’s development. Authorities are also exploring the possibility of introducing new species from outside the state. The aim is to improve biodiversity display, visitor experience, and conservation value.
Significance for Conservation and Tourism
Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is an important wildlife and eco-tourism site in Tripura. The upgrade is expected to strengthen conservation facilities, improve public amenities, and enhance the sanctuary’s appeal for domestic and international tourists.
