State Food Safety Index

State Food Safety Index was developed by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to assess the performance of states/UTs on various parameters of food safety. It measures five parameters – Human Resources and Institutional Data, Compliance, Food Testing – Infrastructure and Surveillance, Training and Capacity Building and Consumer Empowerment.
The 3rd edition of the State of Food Safety Index was released recently. Among the large states, the top three performers are Gujarat, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. For the smaller states, it is Goa, Meghalaya and Manipur. For the UTs, it is Jammu and Kashmir, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and New Delhi.
