On 25 June 2026 the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti, organised the 8th multilingual Sujal Gram Samvad under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 to advance community‑led water governance across five Gram Panchayat‑headquartered villages.
The Event
- Scale: Over 3,000 participants from 5 Gram Panchayats across 4 states and 1 Union Territory; interactions conducted in Assamese, Kannada, Haryanvi, Bengali and Hindi.
- Purpose: Village‑level dialogues on ensuring timely potable piped water delivery and reducing water wastage; emphasis on Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs).
JJM Progress & Targets
- FHTC Coverage: 15.82 crore rural households connected as of 3 Mar 2026 (from 3.23 crore in Aug 2019); over 6 lakh villages covered.
- JJM 2.0 Priorities: source sustainability, water quality testing, community participation and operations & maintenance (O&M).

- Water Testing: Monthly testing using Field Testing Kits (FTKs) practiced in participating States.
- O&M Financing: User charge collection adopted for O&M; winter‑proofing of systems in cold regions reported.
