Tamil Nadu Tops India’s Textile Exports

Tamil Nadu has emerged as India’s leading state in textile exports in 2024-25, with shipments worth USD 7,997.17 million. The state’s export value has risen by 29.12 per cent over the past four years, up from USD 6,193 million in 2020-21. Tamil Nadu has now moved ahead of Gujarat and Maharashtra to secure the top position in the country’s textile export sector.

Export Performance

Tamil Nadu accounted for 21.84 per cent of India’s total textile exports. India’s overall textile export value stood at USD 36,610 million, of which Tamil Nadu contributed USD 7,997.17 million. The state’s export growth reflects a steady rise in textile shipments over the last four years.

  • Gujarat – USD 5,646.01 million
  • Maharashtra – USD 3,831.29 million

Tamil Nadu’s performance placed it first among all state of Indias in textile exports. Gujarat secured the second position, while Maharashtra ranked third.

The figures are based on the National Import-Export Record for Yearly Analysis of Trade, a Centre-run platform that provides real-time foreign trade data. Such datasets are important for tracking state-level export performance, sectoral growth, and India’s trade competitiveness.
