India Joins Pax Silica Coalition

India Joins Pax Silica Coalition

India formally joined the Pax Silica coalition at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, marking a major step in deepening strategic technology cooperation with the United States and other trusted partners. The initiative is aimed at securing the full technology stack that supports the AI-driven global economy, from critical minerals and semiconductor manufacturing to advanced AI systems and deployment infrastructure.

Pax Silica Initiative

Pax Silica is a strategic coalition of trusted nations. It focuses on building resilient and diversified supply chains for the silicon stack. The aim is to reduce overdependence on a few suppliers, limit economic coercion, and support open and democratic governance of emerging technologies.

India’s Strategic Role

India’s entry reflects its growing importance in semiconductors, AI, and critical minerals. The country is expanding its chip design and manufacturing capabilities. Officials brought into light that India’s engineers are already working on advanced two-nanometre chip design, while the semiconductor sector will need a large new skilled workforce.

Technology and Supply Chain Security

The coalition links economic security with national security. It seeks to secure:

  • Critical minerals used in chip and battery supply chains.
  • Semiconductor fabrication and related manufacturing capacity.
  • Data centres and infrastructure for frontier AI deployment.
  • Trusted partnerships to strengthen supply chain resilience.

Broader Significance

The signing was followed by a fireside chat involving senior Indian and US officials, as well as leaders from Micron Technology and Tata Electronics. The discussion underlined the convergence of AI ambition, semiconductor resilience, and trusted collaboration. The development signals a deliberate push by India and its partners to shape the future technology order through secure and democratic supply chains.
