India Tops World Para Athletics Grand Prix

India finished first in the medal standings at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2026 New Delhi leg, held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The host nation won 208 medals, including 75 gold, 69 silver and 64 bronze. The three-day meet featured 257 athletes from eight countries and served as an important competition in the build-up to major global para-sport events.

India’s Medal Dominance

India led the table by a wide margin. Russia finished second with 35 medals, while Bosnia and Herzegovina placed third with three medals. India recorded several podium sweeps across track and field events, underlining its depth in para athletics.

  • Preeti Pal won her second gold of the meet in the women’s 200m T35-T37.
  • Shubham Juyal won gold in the men’s shot put F57 with a throw of 14.45 metres.
  • Rakeshbhai Bhatt clocked 25.20 seconds to win the men’s 200m T37-T44.
  • Manojkumar Sabapathi won gold in the men’s 800m T53-T54.
  • Paralympic champions Sumit Antil and Praveen Kumar also won gold medals during the meet.

Significance Of The Meet

The New Delhi leg was the second stop of the 13th Grand Prix season. It provided athletes with international competition exposure and classification opportunities. Such events are important for ranking, qualification planning and performance assessment ahead of the 2026 World Para Athletics Championships and the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
