A 250-member youth delegation from Jammu and Kashmir met Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan at Uprashtrapati Bhavan as part of the ‘Watan Ko Jano’ initiative. The programme, run by the Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir administration, aims to expose young people from the region to different parts of India and strengthen national integration.
Purpose of the Initiative
The ‘Watan Ko Jano’ programme is designed to build awareness, confidence and a sense of belonging among youth from Jammu and Kashmir. It supports the idea of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ through cultural exchange and national exposure. The initiative also helps students understand India’s diversity and development journey.
Vice President’s Interaction
During the interaction, the Vice President praised the delegation as energetic and determined young minds. He said such programmes help youth develop confidence and a wider outlook. He also encouraged students to contribute to a peaceful, prosperous and self-reliant India through education, technology, tourism and entrepreneurship.
Jammu and Kashmir’s Changing Profile
The Vice President referred to progress in women’s empowerment in Jammu and Kashmir, noting greater participation of women in education and social sectors. He also brought into light the region’s growing success in competitive examinations such as the Civil Services, IIT and IIM. This, he said, reflects rising aspirations among young people.
Youth, Sports and Development
He praised the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team’s historic Ranji Trophy victory as a sign of the region’s potential. He also said Jammu and Kashmir has strong prospects as a global tourism destination due to its natural beauty and cultural richness. He urged students to stay away from drugs and promote healthy habits among peers, stressing that a strong nation depends on healthy youth.
