Delhi Traffic Police has launched Project SANGAM to improve traffic management in the Capital through community participation and coordinated governance. The initiative, named Synergistic Action and Networked Governance for Area Mobility, seeks to address local traffic problems by bringing residents, civic agencies and police on a common platform. It focuses on practical, area-specific solutions for smoother movement on Delhi roads.
Community-Based Traffic Governance
Project SANGAM is built on collaborative governance and citizen-centric problem-solving. It aims to involve Resident Welfare Associations, Market Welfare Associations and local bodies in traffic-related decision-making. The model is intended to ensure that issues are identified and resolved at the neighbourhood level rather than through a purely centralised approach.
Key Areas of Intervention
The initiative targets common urban traffic concerns such as:
- Unauthorised parking.
- Road congestion.
- Pedestrian safety.
- Local bottlenecks affecting mobility.
Officials said the platform enables real-time discussion and quicker action by the concerned agencies, including the Public Works Department and the Municipal Corporation.
Meetings and Public Participation
So far, 30 meetings have been held in major locations such as Connaught Place, Saket and Karol Bagh. More than 6,000 residents have participated in these discussions. The project places strong emphasis on public involvement, with the view that traffic solutions become more effective when local users help shape them.
Administrative Review and Modernisation Push
The launch follows a recent review of the Delhi Traffic Police and a call for better coordination and modernisation of traffic systems. The broader objective is to make Delhi’s roads safer, smoother and better organised through networked governance and active stakeholder cooperation.
