The Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyaan was launched on 26 December 2024 to accelerate progress towards a malnutrition-free Bharat. The initiative uses a data-driven, outcome-oriented framework to identify and reward top-performing Gram Panchayats on the basis of nutrition and Anganwadi service indicators. It is linked to the Poshan Tracker Application and aims to strengthen community participation, infrastructure, and nutritional outcomes at the grassroots level.
Objective of the Abhiyaan
The Abhiyaan seeks to improve child and maternal nutrition through positive competition among Gram Panchayats. It promotes sustained progress in reducing Severe Acute Malnutrition, Moderate Acute Malnutrition, severe stunting, and severe underweight among children. It also focuses on better nutrition for pregnant women and lactating mothers.
Selection and Eligibility Criteria
States and Union Territories nominate top-performing Gram Panchayats, subject to a ceiling of 10% of total Gram Panchayats in each State or UT. Eligibility conditions include:
- Anganwadi Centres functional for at least 21 days per month in the last quarter.
- At least 50 registered beneficiaries per Gram Panchayat across all categories.
- At least 80% Anganwadi Centres with drinking water facilities.
- At least 70% Anganwadi Centres with toilet facilities.
- At least 90% growth measurement efficiency across all Anganwadi Centres.
Incentive Structure and Fund Use
The top 1,000 qualified Gram Panchayats receive an incentive grant of Rs. 1 lakh each. The grant is to be used for:
- 25% for Anganwadi Workers and Helpers.
- 25% for Gram Panchayat-level community mobilisation and beneficiary enrolment.
- 50% for nutrition-related activities at Anganwadi Centres, including Poshan Vatikas, value addition to supplementary nutrition, and related measures.
Key Nutrition Interventions
The Abhiyaan encourages use of millets in Hot Cooked Meals and Take Home Ration. It also promotes nutri-gardens at Anganwadi Centres, diet diversity, and local food-based nutrition practices. Best practices from Anganwadi Centres are documented and shared for wider adoption.
