SARAS Aajeevika Mela 2026 Begins in Gurugram

SARAS Aajeevika Mela 2026 Begins in Gurugram

The SARAS Aajeevika Mela-2026 has begun at Leisure Valley Park in Sector-29, Gurugram, showcasing rural traditions, folk arts and women-led entrepreneurship from across India. The national-level fair will run from 10 February to 26 February and is open to the public free of cost.

National Fair and Rural Livelihoods

The mela is being organised by the Ministry of Rural Development as a major platform for self-help groups and rural producers. More than 900 women entrepreneurs from 28 states are participating. Over 450 stalls have been set up, offering handicrafts, textiles, bamboo products, embroidery and regional specialities from different parts of the country.

Lakhpati Didi and SHG Progress

The fair marks the growth of women’s collectives under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission. Around 10 crore women are now linked to self-help groups. The government’s target of 3 crore Lakhpati Didis has nearly been reached, with 2.9 crore women achieving annual income of at least one lakh rupees by December 2025. The low non-performing asset level of SHG loans, below 2 per cent in several states, reflects improved repayment and financial discipline.

Knowledge, Training and Market Access

A key feature of the mela is the Knowledge and Learning Pavilion. It offers daily workshops on packaging, branding, business proposals and social media marketing. Special sessions on logistics and transportation management aim to help rural women reach wider markets at lower cost. The E-SARAS portal is also being promoted through e-commerce tie-ups to support sales beyond the fair.

Culture, Food and Visitor Experience

The fair includes a demo and live learning area where visitors can watch pottery, embroidery, bamboo craft and fibre-based products being made. A large food court serves regional dishes from across India. A kids’ zone, rest areas for women and senior citizens, and evening folk dance and music performances add to the cultural experience.
