Uttar Pradesh has begun Jal Pakhwada across all schools and educational institutions under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, with activities scheduled from until 30 April. The campaign seeks to make water conservation a mass movement by linking it directly with classrooms, students, teachers and families. It aims to build awareness, responsibility and long-term behavioural change on saving water.
School-Based Water Conservation Drive
The initiative places schools at the centre of water conservation efforts. Students will take part in daily awareness activities, workshops and creative competitions. A water pledge will be administered during morning assemblies to reinforce the message of conservation. The campaign is designed to reach not only students but also parents and local communities.
Monitoring and Accountability System
A structured monitoring mechanism has been introduced to track implementation. All schools must submit daily online reports of their activities. The tracker will record participant numbers, activity details and photo or video uploads. At the district level, Basic Education Officers have been appointed as nodal officers to ensure compliance and accountability.
Activities and Public Awareness Measures
The campaign will include essay writing, debates, quizzes, drawing competitions and other student-led activities. Workshops will be organised with the involvement of departments such as Jal Nigam, Panchayati Raj, Basic Education and Health. Schools will also conduct drives to clean drinking water sources and storage facilities. Water quality will be tested through Jal Nigam laboratories, and purification measures will be taken where required. Photo exhibitions, interactive sessions and awareness drives will further support the campaign.
