The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has extended financial support for the establishment of Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) in Andhra Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission (PMJVM) and the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya MahaAbhiyaN (PM-JANMAN). These centres are designed to strengthen tribal livelihoods through value addition, processing, and marketing of forest produce.
Sanctioned and Operational Centres
- A total of 488 VDVKs have been sanctioned in Andhra Pradesh.
- Of these, 415 were sanctioned under PMJVM and 73 under PM-JANMAN.
- At present, 368 PMJVM VDVKs and 44 PM-JANMAN VDVKs are operational.
Financial Support Released
- The total sanctioned amount for these VDVKs stands at Rs. 6,470.40 lakh.
- Under PMJVM, Rs. 6,162.90 lakh has been sanctioned.
- Under PM-JANMAN, Rs. 307.50 lakh has been sanctioned.
- The total amount released so far is Rs. 3,757.80 lakh.
- Of this, Rs. 3,604.00 lakh has been released under PMJVM and Rs. 153.80 lakh under PM-JANMAN.
How New VDVKs Are Approved
Proposals for new VDVKs are sent by State Governments or implementing agencies through TRIFED. These proposals are examined under prescribed guidelines. Sanction is given only after the required criteria are met and funds are available. This process is intended to ensure proper implementation and financial discipline.
Van Dhan Producer Enterprises
PMJVM also provides for Van Dhan Producer Enterprises (VDPEs), which are clusters of nearby VDVKs meant to further improve tribal income. However, no complete proposals have been received by TRIFED from any State or Union Territory, including Andhra Pradesh, for converting existing VDVKs into VDPEs.
