AIIMS Delhi appointed Dr. Nikhil Tandon as interim Director on 27 April 2026 under Rule 9(4) of the AIIMS Rules, 2019. Dr. Tandon is the Dean (Academic) and Head of Endocrinology at AIIMS Delhi, and he will hold the additional charge for up to six months or until a regular Director is appointed.

The interim arrangement began with immediate effect on 27 April 2026. Dr. Tandon will discharge the duties of Director along with his existing responsibilities and will not receive any additional remuneration or honorarium for the assignment.

The appointment followed the departure of Dr. M. Srinivas, who was appointed as a full-time member of NITI Aayog. Dr. Srinivas had taken charge as Director of AIIMS Delhi on 23 September 2022 after Dr. Randeep Guleria.

Rule 9(4) of the AIIMS Rules, 2019 provides for temporary arrangements in the office of Director at AIIMS institutions. AIIMS Delhi functions as an Institute of National Importance under the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act, 1956.
