DAC Clears Defence Deals Worth 3.6 Lakh Crore

DAC Clears Defence Deals Worth 3.6 Lakh Crore

The Defence Acquisition Council has cleared major procurement proposals worth nearly ₹3.60 lakh crore to strengthen the capability of the Armed Forces. The approvals cover fighter aircraft, missiles, tanks, naval systems and surveillance equipment for the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard. The decisions are aimed at improving combat readiness, deterrence and indigenous defence production.

Air Force Modernisation

The Indian Air Force has received Acceptance of Necessity for the procurement of Multi Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) Rafale, combat missiles and Air-Ship Based High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (AS-HAPS). The MRFA acquisition is expected to improve air dominance across the spectrum of conflict. It will also strengthen long-range offensive strike capability and deterrence. A large share of the aircraft is planned to be manufactured in India.

Army Capability Upgrades

For the Indian Army, AoN was accorded for Anti-Tank Mines (Vibhav) and overhaul of vehicle platforms of Armoured Recovery Vehicles, T-72 tanks and Infantry Combat Vehicles. These systems are intended to improve mobility, survivability and battlefield support. The anti-tank mines will add to ground defence preparedness, while the overhaul programme will extend the service life of existing armoured assets.

Naval and Coast Guard Enhancements

For the Indian Navy, AoN was cleared for four MW marine gas turbine-based electric power generators and P8I long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft. These will support maritime surveillance and operational endurance. For the Indian Coast Guard, AoN was accorded for Electro-Optical/Infra-Red systems for Dornier aircraft. These systems will improve coastal monitoring, search and detection capability.

Indigenous Production and Contracts

The Defence Ministry also signed a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for eight Dornier 228 aircraft, along with operational role equipment for the Indian Coast Guard. The contract is valued at ₹2,312 crore. The overall package reinforces Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India in defence manufacturing while strengthening India’s maritime security architecture.
