Delhi Pre-Paid Taxi Booths MoU Signed

Delhi Pre-Paid Taxi Booths MoU Signed

The Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited (STCL) and Delhi Traffic Police signed a Memorandum of About on 4 February 2026 to create a joint framework for managing and digitally integrating 34 pre-paid taxi booths at 21 locations in Delhi. The agreement aims to improve commuter safety, transparency, convenience and driver earnings through a modernised prepaid taxi system.

Operational Framework

Delhi Traffic Police will manage and operate the pre-paid booths. Its responsibilities include recruitment of booth staff, driver verification, passenger safety and a control room mechanism. The police role is central to maintaining order and public security at the booths.

Role of Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited

STCL will handle digital integration, financial management, salary payments, booth maintenance, branding and marketing. The cooperative is also responsible for training and engaging eligible existing manpower and for hiring additional personnel as required.

Workforce and Service Model

As on 23 March 2026, the platform engaged around 130 personnel in support and operational roles. Recruitment is undertaken in line with operational needs and phased expansion. STCL determines staffing levels periodically, based on its approved organisational structure and business requirements.

Significance of the Initiative

The arrangement is designed to modernise the prepaid taxi ecosystem through digital enablement while keeping the service self-sustaining on a no-profit, no-loss basis. The model seeks to strengthen service delivery, improve efficiency and support sustainable operations under the cooperative framework.
