Dholpur-Karauli Tiger Reserve Relocation Policy

Dholpur-Karauli Tiger Reserve Relocation Policy

Villages inside the Dholpur-Karauli Tiger Reserve will not be relocated without the consent of residents. The Rajasthan government has also indicated that compensation for human-wildlife conflict deaths may be increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh after rule changes. The statement came in the Assembly while responding to questions on the Critical Tiger Habitat, relocation policy, and wildlife conflict compensation.

Relocation Only With Consent

The state clarified that voluntary relocation of villages falling under the Critical Tiger Habitat in Dholpur-Karauli has not yet begun. Any future relocation will be carried out only with the willingness of villagers. If relocation is taken up later, compensation will be paid as per state orders and National Tiger Conservation Authority guidelines.

Critical Tiger Habitat Notification

The Critical Tiger Habitat in Dholpur-Karauli was notified in line with Supreme Court directions. A committee was formed as required by the court, and its report was submitted before the notification was issued. This makes the reserve part of the wider legal framework for tiger conservation and habitat protection.

Compensation and Land Use Rules

The government said families of people killed in human-wildlife conflict currently receive Rs 5 lakh under a 2022 order. Rule amendments are being prepared to raise this amount to Rs 10 lakh for the next of kin. It was also stated that villagers cultivating barren land inside the reserve are not entitled to compensation under existing departmental rules.

Sariska Tigress Death

The minister also informed the House about a tigress death in Sariska Tiger Reserve. The animal died after injuries sustained in a conflict between two tigresses. The incident marks the continuing challenge of managing wildlife aggression within protected forest areas.
