The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has launched an eco-friendly Holi campaign across Eco-Clubs under its Environment Education Programme. The initiative promotes safe, sustainable and nature-based celebrations in line with Mission LiFE. Students are being trained through hands-on workshops to prepare natural colours from edible and plant-based materials.
Natural Colours in Workshops
Eco-Club sessions are teaching students to make Holi colours using simple ingredients. Green colour is prepared from fresh leafy vegetables. Red is made from beetroot. Yellow is derived from turmeric. Orange is made from Gogupuvvu, also known as Palash. These materials are used as biodegradable alternatives to synthetic colours.
Health and Environmental Benefits
The campaign marks that natural colours are free from harmful chemicals and toxic substances. This makes them safer for skin, eyes and overall health.
