Exercise Vajra Ghaat in Pokhran

Exercise Vajra Ghaat in Pokhran

The Indian Army’s Southern Command conducted Exercise Vajra Ghaat at the Pokhran Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer district to test the combat readiness of the K9 Vajra self-propelled artillery gun system in desert conditions. The drill focused on validating refined tactics, techniques and procedures for improved battlefield survivability and operational effectiveness in the Thar Desert.

Exercise Objective

The exercise was spearheaded by the White Tiger Division. Its main aim was to assess how quickly heavy artillery assets can be deployed in harsh desert terrain. It also examined the Army’s ability to conduct integrated combat operations in the western sector.

K9 Vajra Fire Missions

The K9 Vajra system carried out high-intensity fire missions during the drill. The exercise brought into light its speed, precision and lethality. The gun system is designed for rapid movement, accurate strikes and sustained fire support in operational environments.

Technology Integration

Advanced surveillance and technology-driven target acquisition systems were used during the exercise. These systems enabled real-time identification and engagement of simulated enemy positions. The drill also reflected the growing role of battlefield management systems, communication networks and sensors in modern artillery operations.

Strategic Significance

Exercise Vajra Ghaat underlined the Army’s preparedness for desert warfare and its focus on combining traditional firepower with modern technology. The validation of refined TTPs is expected to strengthen combat posture in the western sector and improve coordination between artillery and other combat arms.
