Government e Marketplace (GeM) has crossed a cumulative Gross Merchandise Value of ₹18.4 lakh crore, including more than ₹5 lakh crore in FY 2025–26. The milestone marks the platform’s growing role in India’s digital public procurement system. GeM is used by government buyers to procure goods and services through a transparent, technology-driven process that aims to improve efficiency, widen participation and strengthen accountability in public spending.
Growth in Public Procurement
GeM has emerged as a major procurement platform for Central Ministries, departments, Central Public Sector Enterprises, States and Union Territories. Its rising transaction value reflects deeper adoption of digital procurement across public institutions. The platform supports large-scale purchasing while reducing procedural delays and improving access to a wider supplier base.
Support for Inclusive Enterprise Participation
GeM has expanded access for Micro and Small Enterprises, women entrepreneurs, SC/ST enterprises and startups.
- More than 11 lakh MSEs are registered on the platform.
- MSEs executed 68 per cent of total orders in FY 2025–26.
- They accounted for 47.1 per cent of total GMV and received orders worth ₹2.36 lakh crore.
- Over 2.1 lakh women-led MSEs received orders exceeding ₹28,000 crore.
- SC/ST MSEs secured orders worth over ₹6,000 crore.
- Startups received orders worth over ₹19,000 crore.
Technology-Driven Procurement System
GeM uses Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and advanced analytics to improve procurement integrity. ML-based catalogue validation and pre-sanity checks help reduce errors. Real-time analytics are used to monitor transactions and detect anomalies. The system also identifies abnormal pricing, suspected collusive bidding, technical rejection anomalies and possible buyer-seller collusion. Bid Health Scores support better decision-making and strengthen trust in the platform.
Rising Role of States and Union Territories
State-level procurement on GeM grew by 38.3 per cent in FY 2025–26, showing wider acceptance beyond central institutions. This expansion indicates stronger confidence in GeM as a transparent and accountable procurement mechanism. The platform continues to deepen digital public procurement and promote economic inclusion across regions.
