The National Textiles Ministers’ Conference 2026 will begin on 8 January in Guwahati, Assam, bringing together Textile Ministers and senior officials from States and Union Territories. The two-day event is being held under the theme India’s Textiles – Weaving Growth, Heritage & Innovation and will focus on policy, investment, sustainability, exports, infrastructure, and technology in the textile sector.
Conference Objectives
The conference aims to support India’s vision of becoming a global textile manufacturing hub by 2030. It seeks to strengthen exports, generate employment, and promote inclusive growth. The discussions are aligned with the spirit of Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi, which combines development with heritage.
Inaugural Session and Exhibition
The inaugural session will be attended by the Union Minister of Textiles, the Chief Minister of Assam, the Minister of State for Textiles, and other dignitaries. An exhibition and pavilion will also be opened to showcase India’s textile strength, innovation, and traditional heritage.
Key Themes and Sectoral Focus
The conference will cover several important areas, including:
- Infrastructure and investment in textiles.
- Expansion of India’s textile exports.
- Raw materials and fibres.
- Technical textiles and new-age fibres.
- Preservation and promotion of handlooms and handicrafts.
Special attention will be given to PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel Parks, sustainability, environmental compliance, innovation, and integrated value-chain development.
North-Eastern Region Conclave
A separate conclave on strengthening the textile sector of the North-Eastern Region will also be held on 8 January. It will focus on the region’s silk, handloom, handicrafts, and bamboo-based textiles. Eri, Muga, and Mulberry silk, women-led enterprises, branding, and market access will be key discussion points. The conference is expected to improve Centre-State coordination and build a more competitive, sustainable, and inclusive textile sector.
