On 17 July 2026 the Prime Minister inaugurated multiple projects in Chandigarh spanning healthcare and road infrastructure, including additions at PGIMER and final links of the Tricity Ring Road.
Healthcare — PGIMER projects
- PGIMER status: Premier tertiary-care and medical teaching institute established 1962 in Chandigarh.
- Advanced Mother & Child Centre: 300‑bed facility for maternal and paediatric services inaugurated.
- Advanced Neurosciences Centre: Integrated neurology, neurosurgery and neuro‑critical care unit inaugurated.
- Critical Care Block (foundation): 150‑bed block laid under Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM‑ABHIM).
- PM‑ABHIM: Central sector scheme launched 2021 to strengthen health infrastructure and critical care capacity.
Road Infrastructure — Tricity Ring Road
- NHAI projects value: Road works worth ₹5,278 crore announced as final links of the Ring Road.
- Tricity Ring Road: Planned length 244 km; estimated cost ~₹12,000 crore for entire project.
- IT City–Kurali Corridor: 31.23 km six‑lane greenfield corridor; cost ₹1,936 crore; inaugurated.
- Zirakpur–Panchkula bypass: 19.2 km; letter of acceptance value ~₹1,878 crore (foundation stone laid).
- PR‑7 Spur: 10.3 km; reported value ~₹1,464 crore (foundation stone laid).
- Tricity composition: Chandigarh, Mohali (SAS Nagar) and Panchkula.
