Event Overview
The Beach Games are part of the Khelo India initiative to promote grassroots sports and wider participation in physical activity. The competition is being held at a coastal venue, which supports beach-based disciplines and open-water events. The scale of participation makes it one of the major multi-sport beach events in the country.
Medal and Non-Medal Sports
The six medal events are:
- Beach Soccer
- Beach Volleyball
- Beach Sepak Takraw
- Beach Kabaddi
- Pencak Silat
- Open Water Swimming
The non-medal events are Mallakhamb and Tug of War. These events add cultural and traditional sporting value to the programme.
Organising Framework
The games are being conducted under the technical supervision of the Sports Authority of India and recognised national sports federations. This ensures standardised competition, officiating, and event management. The hosting by the Union Territory also marks the role of regional administrations in promoting sports infrastructure and event delivery.
Significance for Indian Sports
Khelo India Beach Games reflect the government’s broader effort to build a sports culture among youth. The initiative supports fitness, talent identification, and competitive exposure in emerging sports. It also helps expand the sporting calendar beyond conventional indoor and field events, while encouraging participation in coastal and water-based disciplines.
