The Khelo India Tribal Games concluded in Chhattisgarh with the closing ceremony held in Raipur. The event brought together 3,800 athletes from 30 states and Union Territories. Competitions were held across seven disciplines, with Mallakhamb and Kabaddi included as demonstration sports. The Games brought into light tribal sporting talent and provided a national platform for young athletes.
Closing Ceremony and Dignitaries
The closing ceremony was attended by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai as Chief Guest. Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao was also present. International boxer Mary Kom and former footballer Bhaichung Bhutia attended as special guests. Their presence added prominence to the concluding event.
Final Day Results
The final day featured the men’s football final and several archery events.
- West Bengal defeated Chhattisgarh 1-0 in the men’s football final to win gold.
- Chhattisgarh secured the silver medal in football.
- Komalika Bari of Jharkhand won gold in the women’s recurve individual archery event.
- Nagaland won gold in the women’s recurve team event.
- Arjun Khara of Odisha won gold in the men’s recurve individual event.
- Jharkhand won gold in the men’s recurve team event.
Overall Medal Tally
Karnataka emerged as the overall champion with 23 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals. Odisha finished second with 21 gold, 15 silver and 21 bronze medals. Jharkhand secured third place with 16 gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze medals. Host state Chhattisgarh finished ninth with 3 gold, 10 silver and 6 bronze medals.
Significance of the Games
The Khelo India Tribal Games are designed to promote sporting participation among tribal youth and identify emerging talent. The event also supports wider inclusion in national sports development. The competition covered archery, athletics, football, hockey, swimming, weightlifting and wrestling.
