The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has launched the Logistics Port Performance Index (LPPI) for FY 2024-25. It serves as a benchmarking tool to evaluate and enhance operational efficiency across India’s major and non-major ports.
Key Objectives and Framework
- Purpose: To reduce turnaround time and optimize cargo handling by identifying operational bottlenecks.
- Segmented Benchmarking: Ports are evaluated across three specific categories: Dry Bulk, Liquid Bulk, and Container Cargo.
- Strategic Alignment: The index is developed under Sagar Aankalan guidelines and integrates with PM Gati Shakti and Maritime India Vision 2030 to boost global maritime competitiveness.
- Digital Reforms: The Ministry launched four digital modules—Grievance Redressal, Ship Registration, Port Governance, and Seafarer Welfare—to ensure transparency, minimize human intervention, and improve administrative efficiency.
