India will host the National Textiles Ministers’ Conference in Guwahati, Assam, on 8–9 January 2026. The two-day event will bring together Union and State Ministers, senior officials, and stakeholders to discuss a coordinated national strategy for strengthening India’s textiles sector. The conference is being organised around the theme, India’s Textiles – Weaving Growth, Heritage & Innovation.
Conference Objectives
The conference will focus on building India’s position as a global textiles manufacturing hub. It aligns with the national goal of creating a USD 350 billion textile industry and achieving USD 100 billion in textile exports by 2030. Discussions will cover policy coordination, sectoral growth, and value-chain integration across regions.
Key Themes for Deliberation
The sessions will examine:
- Infrastructure and investment for textile growth.
- Expansion of exports and global competitiveness.
- Raw materials and fibres for a stronger supply chain.
- New frontiers such as technical textiles and research and development.
- Revitalisation of traditional textiles, including handloom and handicrafts for modern markets.
North-Eastern Region Focus
A separate conclave on strengthening the textiles sector of the North-Eastern Region will also be held on 8 January 2026. It will focus on silk, handloom, bamboo-based textiles, women-led enterprises, and the branding of Textiles from North-East. The aim is to connect the region’s textile strengths with national and global value chains.
Exhibition and Stakeholder Participation
Ministers and officials from States and Union Territories are expected to share best practices, challenges, and policy suggestions. A special exhibition of Indian handlooms and handicrafts from across the country will also be organised to showcase traditional skills and market potential.
