Rongali Bihu Preparations Begin in Assam

Rongali Bihu preparations have begun across Assam as the state moves towards its assembly elections. The festival, which marks the Assamese New Year and the arrival of spring, will begin on 14 April. In Guwahati, a Bihu dance workshop has drawn large participation, reflecting the cultural importance of the festival alongside the political mood in the state.

Rongali Bihu and Its Significance

Rongali Bihu is one of Assam’s most important festivals. It is also called Bibhag Bihu or Saat Bihu. The festival celebrates culture, heritage, and seasonal renewal. It is observed across the state with music, dance, and community gatherings. For many people in Assam, it remains a symbol of identity and social unity.

Bihu Dance Workshop in Guwahati

A Bihu dance workshop has been organised at Chandmari field in Guwahati. The workshop began on 30 March and will continue till 10 April. Nearly 500 boys and girls have taken part in it. Coaches and organisers said that young participants are showing strong enthusiasm for preserving and performing the traditional dance form.

Festival Season Amid Elections

Assam is also preparing for a major political contest in the 126-seat Assembly. The ruling BJP-led NDA is seeking a third consecutive term, while the Congress is aiming to return to power. The timing has created a dual atmosphere in the state, with people engaging in both democratic participation and cultural celebration.

The ongoing Bihu preparations show the close link between culture and public life in Assam. Organisers have stressed that elections are important for democracy, while Bihu remains central to Assamese heritage. The festival is expected to bring communities together as the state enters month for both politics and tradition.
