India ended its ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol campaign in Granada, Spain, with one gold medal and third place in the overall standings. Sonam Uttam Maskar produced a fighting performance in the women’s 10m air rifle final, finishing fifth after scoring 188.5. She was eliminated after the 18th shot in the 24-shot final, narrowly behind the leading group in a high-quality contest.
Women’s 10m Air Rifle Final
Sonam qualified for the final in seventh place with 632.8 in the first relay. In the final, she began with a 10.6 and then a 9.8, which affected her medal chances. She recovered well and stayed in contention by surviving three elimination rounds. A perfect 10.9 on her 14th shot was a highlight. She finished with a 10.5 but missed the podium.
Podium and Winning Scores
World No. 1 Wang Zifei won gold with 252.9 points. Jeanette Hegg Duestad secured silver with 252.4, while Han Jiayu took bronze with 231.5. Sonam finished just 0.8 points behind her nearest rivals at the stage of elimination.
India’s Overall Campaign
India reached seven finals in Granada but won only one gold. The gold came in the 10m air pistol mixed event through Mukesh Nelavalli and Palak on the opening day. India fielded several shooters ranked between fourth and sixth domestically in the season’s opening World Cup leg. Mehuli Ghosh placed 44th with 627.3, while Shruti finished 63rd with 624.8 in a 91-strong field. Among ranking-points-only shooters, Narmada Nithin Raju scored 629.0 and Rajshree Sancheti 628.1.
Other Indian Results
In the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions qualification, Niraj Kumar shot 589 and Akhil Sheoran scored 588. They finished 15th and 22nd respectively. Chain Singh was eliminated earlier. China topped the medal table with eight golds and 13 medals, while India finished third overall.
