V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority has become the first port in India to begin implementing an advanced anti-drone system. The project is aimed at strengthening maritime and coastal security by protecting critical port infrastructure from unauthorised aerial threats. It marks a notable step in the use of indigenous electronic countermeasure technology for port safety.
Key Features of the System
The security solution combines radio frequency-based detection, radar surveillance and jamming capability. It is designed for complex port environments and provides 360-degree coverage. The system includes a drone detector, drone detection radar and a man-pack jammer.

Agreement and Implementation
The project agreement was signed between V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority and Central Electronics Limited, a Government of India enterprise under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology. The system is scheduled for completion within three months. The initiative reflects growing emphasis on securing ports against emerging aerial security risks.
Strategic Importance for Port Security
Ports are critical infrastructure and are vulnerable to surveillance, smuggling, sabotage and disruption through drones. The new system is expected to improve protection of assets, personnel and operations. It also strengthens emergency response preparedness and airspace monitoring at the port.

The project aligns with Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and Maritime India Vision 2030. It supports broader efforts to enhance national safety, coastal defence compliance and maritime resilience. The initiative positions VOC Port as a benchmark for security innovation among Indian ports.
