A first-of-its-kind women-led industrial park has been inaugurated at Gowribidanur in Karnataka. The initiative, led by FICCI FLO Bangalore with support from Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) and Karnataka Udyog Mitra (KUM), is planned as a 50-acre industrial park exclusively for FLO Bengaluru members. The project aims to reduce barriers that have long limited women, especially first-generation entrepreneurs, from entering manufacturing and large-scale enterprise.
Purpose of the Industrial Park
The park is designed as more than a land allotment. It seeks to create a full ecosystem for women entrepreneurs. The initiative is intended to make industrial entry simpler, more accessible and less intimidating for women from different backgrounds, including homemakers, professionals and first-time business owners.
Why Gowribidanur Was Chosen
Gowribidanur was selected for its connectivity, available infrastructure and long-term growth potential. The location also helps avoid the congestion and limitations of Bengaluru’s saturated industrial zones. The project reflects a deliberate effort to shift industrial development beyond major metropolitan centres and encourage regional economic growth.
Support System for Entrepreneurs
The park will provide enabling support such as:
- Single-window access for approvals.
- Handholding through consultants.
- Access to financial institutions.
- Guidance on business planning, compliance and project execution.
- Future shared facilities such as skill development centres, creche support and R&D assistance.
These features are meant to address practical challenges faced by women entrepreneurs balancing business and family responsibilities.
Broader Significance for Industrial Growth
The project is seen as a model of inclusive and decentralised industrial development. It is expected to generate local employment, strengthen regional ecosystems and demonstrate the role of women as key drivers of manufacturing-led growth. The initiative also marks the growing relevance of public-private collaboration in promoting sustainable entrepreneurship.
