Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 is a Centrally Sponsored Mission aimed at improving nutrition outcomes among children, adolescent girls and women. It has subsumed Anganwadi Services, Poshan Abhiyaan and the Scheme for Adolescent Girls under one framework. The Mission is being implemented across all States and Union Territories, with implementation responsibilities resting with the respective State and UT governments.
Mission Framework
The Mission seeks to strengthen nutrition delivery through integrated service support. It focuses on children below six years of age, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. Progress on child nutrition is tracked through the Poshan Tracker public dashboard, which shows status and reporting from States and UTs.
Saksham Anganwadi Centres
A key component of the Mission is the upgradation of Anganwadi Centres into Saksham Anganwadi Centres. These are modernised centres equipped with digital and child-friendly infrastructure. Features include:
- Internet or Wi-Fi connectivity.
- LED screens and audio-visual learning aids.
- Water purifiers or RO systems.
- Smart learning equipment and educational artwork.
- Practice boards and information boards for children.
Around 2 lakh Anganwadi Centres have been approved for five years for such upgradation under Mission Poshan 2.0.
Digital Monitoring and Delivery
The Poshan Tracker application has been launched to monitor activities at Anganwadi Centres, including work of Anganwadi Workers and beneficiary services. It enables near real-time data collection and helps authorities review nutrition and health indicators. For last-mile delivery, Facial Recognition System has been introduced for Take-Home Ration distribution to ensure benefits reach the intended beneficiary.
Beneficiary Identification and Field Support
Aadhaar-based tracking has been used to improve identification of beneficiaries, reduce leakages and remove ghost entries. Anganwadi Workers have been provided smartphones with data recharge support for entry on Poshan Tracker. Growth Monitoring Devices have also been installed in all Anganwadi Centres to measure the growth of registered children and support nutrition-related interventions.
