Gujarat to Set Up First Hi-Tech Nursery

Gujarat to Set Up First Hi-Tech Nursery

Gujarat is set to establish its first hi-tech nursery in Davas village of Deesa taluka in Banaskantha district. The project is aimed at strengthening afforestation, conserving rare plant species and supporting scientific environmental protection. It will be developed over around 13 acres at an estimated cost of Rs 3.5 crore.

Project Overview

The nursery will be implemented under the Gujarat Forest Department and the Social Forestry Department. It is being developed as a model initiative for scientific afforestation in the state. The facility is expected to produce more than 10 lakh saplings every year after becoming operational.

Modern Nursery Facilities

The project will include advanced infrastructure to improve plant survival and growth. Key facilities will include:

  • Mist chambers for controlled humidity.
  • Germination chambers for better seed sprouting.
  • Polyhouses and net houses for protection from adverse weather.
  • Soil-less media cultivation for healthier and faster growth.

These technologies are intended to produce high-quality, disease-free and robust saplings.

Conservation and Support Units

The nursery will also support conservation of rare and endangered plant species. A seed bank and a seed processing unit will be established for scientific storage of valuable seeds. A Nursery Information Centre will guide students, farmers and environmental enthusiasts on plant cultivation and afforestation practices. A vermicomposting unit will produce organic fertiliser to improve plant health.
