The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the IndiaAI Mission, the Government of Assam and IIT Guwahati have begun a two-day Human Capital Working Group meeting in Guwahati. The meeting focuses on education reform, workforce transition and inclusive adoption of artificial intelligence. It is a key preparatory event for the India AI Impact Summit 2026, which will be held in New Delhi in February 2026.
Purpose of the Meeting
The discussions aim to identify how India can build future-ready human capital in the age of AI. Policymakers, academic leaders, industry experts and practitioners are examining ways to move beyond conventional skilling. The emphasis is on lifelong learning, human augmentation and institutional readiness.
Key Themes Discussed
- AI adoption must remain human-centric and inclusive.
- Skilling systems should support adaptability, judgement and critical thinking.
- Education must shift from rote learning to cognitive and process-oriented learning.
- Gender-responsive strategies are needed for the AI transition.
- Social protection is important for workers affected by automation.
Institutional and Policy Priorities
IIT Guwahati brought into light its role as a platform for dialogue among academia, industry, students and policymakers. IndiaAI outlined its work on compute capacity, indigenous datasets, models and nationwide AI skilling. Assam government officials stressed that AI should support human augmentation rather than deepen inequality. They also warned that concentration of AI capabilities among a few global players could affect India’s employment model in IT and outsourcing.

The recommendations will feed into global-level discussions on democratising AI resources and expanding inclusive AI adoption, especially for the Global South. The process aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
